Puppies Behind Bars

Fortunately, this is not a heartbreaking story about puppy mills. My big brother, Maddux, and I heard about this groundbreaking program called Puppies Behind Bars that is transforming the lives of some inmates, who are given 8-week-old puppies and taught to train them to become service dogs for the disabled, including wounded soldiers.

This particular story was about a dog named Frankie that has become a lifeline for a soldier home from Iraq suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury(TBI) after he was hit with a roadside bomb. Frankie helps the soldier snap out of his debilitating flashbacks by kissing his face. Puppies Behind Bars established a program called Dog Tags, which provides service dogs to veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan who suffer from physical injury, PTSD, or TBI. If you would like to learn more about Puppies Behind Bars or donate to their Dog Tags program please click here: http://www.puppiesbehindbars.org/.

You can also donate to Dog Tags by purchasing a Chewy Shoe Dog Toy (a red, white, and blue rubber chew toy that is the imprint of the sole of a soldier’s boot) from Fetchdog.com and they will donate $2 to the Dog Tags program.

Please help those who have served our country!
