On Friday before the party, Mommy and Auntie Jamie spent the day at Dollywood. To my dismay, they didn’t actually get to see Dolly. What a rip off to go to a place called “Dolly”wood and not see Dolly! She should really be there every day to meet the visitors.

Mommy and Auntie Jamie walked the park, ate berries n’ crème, and even rode some rides. Even though Auntie Jamie is scared of heights and gets motion sickness, Mommy talked her into getting on the swings, which fly 70 feet in the air! Auntie Jamie was so scared she wouldn’t open her eyes the entire ride.
For some reason, they played dead at the park.

While Mommy was at Dollywood, Daddy and Uncle Bryon went fly fishing. Uncle Bryon caught several, but Daddy only caught one. He said it was a beautiful fish even though it was only 2 inches long. I’m no fisherman so I’m not sure how much color and detail can be on a little sardine size fish, but Daddy assured us it was a beauty so I believe him.
SURPRISE PARTY!
As we said at the beginning of the post, we threw Mamaw and Papaw a surprise luncheon for their 40th wedding anniversary on Saturday at Calhouns on the River (technically their anniversary was Sunday, May 25th).

Mommy and Auntie Jamie pulled off a great surprise. Mamaw and Papaw didn’t see it coming at all. It was hard to keep the secret, but everyone did a great job. Auntie Jamie, Uncle Rich, Daddy, and Nana had the job of decorating the banquet room, and it was Mommy’s job to get Mamaw and Papaw to the restaurant by noon. There were a couple of times before they arrived at Calhouns that Mommy thought the jig was up. First, Mamaw wanted to leave for the restaurant really early, and Mommy was worried that they would arrive before some of the guests. She kept stalling by taking pictures and “forgetting” stuff in the house.
Here’s one of the pictures she took before they left. Of course, Maddux and I were careful not to give anything away while the pictures were being taken.

She managed to get them to the restaurant, and she was worried they might run into late arriving guests. They were almost to the door and Papaw spotted a car he recognized. Mommy tried to keep them moving toward the door, but Papaw kept turning around and looking at the car saying, “I know that’s Marty’s car.” Mommy was really sweating it at this point. Finally, they were inside the restaurant and outside the banquet doors. The doors open, and everyone yelled, “SURPRISE!”

Everyone had a great time at the party, and they enjoyed the barbeque buffet and cake. The only thing missing was me and Maddux! I can’t believe they would have the party at a place that was not dog friendly.

After the party, Mommy and Daddy left us AGAIN, but it was ok because we got to stay with Mamaw and Papaw while Mommy, Daddy, and Nana went to see Uncle Bryon, Auntie Tina, and Cousin Sam.
Here’s a cute picture of us before they left.

Sam had a rough week…he was running through the house and fell and bumped his head. Uncle Bryon and Auntie Tina had to rush him to the emergency room, but luckily, he was ok. He was running a slight fever when they got there and he had scratched his leg on the stairs, but he was still ready to play. .

Uncle Bryon and Auntie Tina are building a house so everyone went to see the progress after dinner. Sam was quick to show everyone how he helps Uncle Bryon with the building.

Here’s a picture of Sam and Auntie Tina on what will be the second floor of their house. They will have an excellent view!

Sam was getting tired by the end of the evening, but he let Mommy get one last picture of the family.

The Ride Home
Before we knew it, Sunday had arrived and it was time to head home. Unfortunately, about half way home I got sick in the car…a couple of times. Mommy was quick on her feet so there was no mess in the new car. We had to stop at the Georgia Welcome Center to let me stretch my legs and get some water. Thankfully, the remainder of the trip was uneventful…Maddux and I slept the rest of the way home.
We were all looking forward to the rest of the Memorial weekend, and Mommy and Daddy were even taking an extra day off on Tuesday to stay home and play with us. Unfortunately, Mommy got really sick on Monday night with a stomach virus, and she was sick all Monday night and Tuesday. She is starting to feel better, but she is still really weak so she stayed home from work today.
Well, I better go check on Mommy to see if she needs anything. We hope everyone had a better Memorial Day than Mommy!
