I wasn't being as cooperative as Maddux when it came to pictures, but Mommy was able to get a few.

Daddy, we are sorry it wasn't very festive around here today since Mommy is still on the mend, but we will make it up to you. Thanks to Mimi & Papaw for picking up the dessert since Mommy couldn't get out.

To Kill A Mockingbird

OK, we don't really want to kill the mockingbird, but Daddy is really hoping the mockingbird family living in our tree will move out soon.

Yesterday, Daddy discovered the hard way that there is a Mockingbird nest in the tree next to the garage, AND there is also a Martin (or maybe two) living above our garage window. While Daddy was doing his yard work yesterday, it was like an Alfred Hitchcock movie!

Daddy doesn't really want to hurt either of the birds, but he thinks they are mean devil birds. Today, he went out to get some pictures, but he used his high-powered zoom lens so he didn't have to get too close to the tree.

The Mockingbird...he's even got his beak open ready to attack!

The Martin, or what we think is a Martin...we'll need Mimi to look at the picture to confirm. You can't see it in the picture, but they have a forked tail, which only confirms Daddy's suspicion that they are devil birds, too.

After we took the pictures, we had a heavy storm blow in, and Daddy noticed there was a bird's nest in the yard. He was hoping the storm had evicted the Mockingbirds so he took his zoom lens outside to check it out (there's no way he's getting close enough so they attack again). There must have been two nests in the tree because the Mockingbirds were still squawking in our tree over their nest.

Decoy nest:

One of them was flying around the house surveying the area after the storm. Here he is on the neighbor's fence:

He either has food in his beak, or he's making some repairs to his nest. I wonder if he has insurance?

While the daddy bird was flying around the neighborhood, the mama bird was in the tree manning the nest! Squawking, Squawking, Squawking!

Friendly Visitor

While Daddy was taking pictures of the devil birds, a pretty butterfly came to visit our flower garden. His wings were fluttering so fast, he looked like a hummingbird. Daddy got some good pictures of him.

We would prefer the butterfly live in our tree instead of that mean old Mockingbird! Mommy read on the internet that it takes 12 days for their babies to leave the nest. Daddy has started the clock and as soon as those babies leave the nest the Mockingbirds are getting evicted!

I guess we'll wait and see how this plays out. As of now, my money is on the birds.
